Steigenberger Hotels AG is one of the leading hotel companies in Europe and operates 80 hotels in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Egypt.
The Steigenberger Hotel Group covers the following two brands
- Steigenberger Hotels and Resorts: These 47 individual luxury hotels, some in historical buildings, enjoy excellent locations in cities and attractive holiday regions.
- InterCityHotel: 33 mid-range Business Hotels located near key transport hubs such as mainline railway stations and airports.
In 2012 two InterCityHotels in Bonn and in Darmstadt opened for business as well as a new Steigenberger Airport Hotel at the Amsterdam airport opened for business. 2013 a deluxe Steigenberger Hotel at the new Berlin airport, a deluxe Steigenberger Hotel in Brussels and a superior Steigenberger Hotel in Bremen will join the hotel group. 2013 will see the opening of the InterCityHotel Leipzig as well as a new InterCityHotel flagship at Berlin central station.

Environmental protection
In line with the corporate responsibility of a hotel group,environmental protection – in addition to social involvement – is part of a sustainable business strategy.
Steigenberger was one of the first hotel companies in Germany to arrange for an energy statement to be prepared for all hotels, showing the energy consumption in relation to the area of the hotel. The results set out in the energy statement enable measures to be drawn up to improve energy efficiency. These comprise the possibility of changing over to district heating, monitoring peak electricity consumption and the use of absorber technology.
In the field of hotel management, active environmental awareness also comprises the purchasing of locally/regionally produced products, innovative waste disposal, environmentally sound washing and cleaning agents, and the facility for not having hand towels and bath towels changed every day, to name but a few.
The aim of the Steigenberger Hotel Group is to further reduce the use of primary energy in the course of the next few years. The findings of the Company’s own monitoring as well as results from co-operation with the Fraunhofer Institut or the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen (DGNB) will be implemented in order to meet this objective.
A pilot project in this respect is the Steigenberger Hotel Berlin, which is making a special contribution to the subject of environmental protection and carbon reduction. It is the first certified carbonneutral business hotel in Germany. The hotel has been presented with the Berlin environment prize 2010 in the category “Economy and Innovation” by the BUND.
