At Graal-Müritz the air and water quality is so good that the town has received official recognition as a state-sanctioned health resort, thanks to its perfect coastal location and remarkable bioclimate.
Back in 1877, Dr Carl von Mettenheimer, personal physician to the Duke of Mecklenburg, discovered the natural climatic benefits of what is now Graal-Müritz. This gem of a destination in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is idyllically set alongside a five-kilometre sandy beach. The traditional holiday resort's proximity to Hanseatic Rostock and the Fischland-Darss-Zingst peninsula add to its special appeal.
The distinctive interplay of sea, forest and heathland creates a therapeutic bioclimate that has been proven to exert a beneficial effect on the skin, respiratory system, heart and circulation. And the Blue Flag flying proudly over the town is evidence of the high quality of its air and water. The German Association for Environmental Education adheres to a strict set of EU guidelines when issuing this award.
