The Wilhelm Busch Museum, the German Museum for Caricature and Critical Drawing, is situated at the heart of an English-style landscape garden. It is home to a collection of more than 40,000 historical and contemporary pieces by international artists famous for their satirical style.

Displays dedicated to big names in humorous and satirical art, such as Wilhelm Busch, Loriot, Jean-Jacques Sempé, William Hogarth, Marie Marcks and Friedrich Karl Waechter, have a place in this museum that was established in 1937. There are also samples of work by children's book illustrators such as Axel Scheffler and Eric Carle. The museum is centred around its extensive exhibitions showcasing Wilhelm Busch's full portfolio and the collection of caricatures which traces the history of this genre of art from 1600 to the present day.

The Collection of Caricature and Critical Drawing was set up at the start of the 1960s and has since evolved to become a high-profile institution and research site of both national and international importance. The collection currently consists of more than 50,000 satirical images spanning five centuries.
