The route around the state capital of Baden-Württemberg takes you through the districts of Ludwigsburg, Böblingen, Esslingen, Göppingen and Rems-Murr. It also includes the Swabian Alb Biosphere, the Swabian-Franconian Forest Nature Park and the wine regions on the Neckar and Ems rivers. The landscape is shaped by medieval buildings, such as those in the tranquil town of Markgröningen, but also by industrial monuments. Marbach's associations with German Classicism will interest culturally minded visitors, while the Swabian-Franconian Forest Nature Park and the fruit-laden orchards of Krebsbachaue will appeal to nature lovers. Between Welzheim and Murrhardt are the UNESCO World Heritage Roman Limes, the remnants of the former boundary of the Roman empire.
