Deichtorhallen Hamburg

The Deichtorhallen is one of Europe's largest exhibition spaces for contemporary art. The venue is divided across three stunning locations, each of which has different focal points and boasts exceptional architecture.

With three buildings at two locations and an exhibition space spanning 10,000 square metres, contemporary art and photography are the order of the day at the Deichtorhallen. In the Hall of Contemporary Art near Hafencity, major projects featuring modern-day approaches to art are on display. The focus here is on individual exhibitions featuring painters, sculptors and designers. Collections of photos can be found in the House of Photography, with historical images from the 19th and 20th centuries on show alongside the work of young contemporary photographers.

The Falckenberg Collection in the Harburg district of Hamburg has been an integral part of the Deichtorhallen offering since 2011, with a focus on German and American contemporary art from the 1980s onwards. Spectacular exhibitions of high international standing are brought to life through interactions with the unusual design of the buildings themselves. On top of everything else, the Deichtorhallen is an architectural feat in its own right and an important window on Hamburg's past. Opening times: Tuesday to Sunday: 11 am–6 pm, the first Thursday of every month: 11 am–9 pm
