LWL Museum of Natural History with Planetarium Münster

The LWL Museum in Münster is a natural history museum and planetarium in one, making it a one-of-a-kind attraction in Germany. There is no planetarium in the whole of Europe with a sharper digital resolution.

Where in Münster can you look a mammoth in the eye? Dive into the world of the whales? See a Native American on horseback? Explore the infinite reaches of space? At the LWL Museum of Natural History, of course! The Planetarium is located right inside the LWL Museum of Natural History too. Here, visitors can explore far-flung planets, stars and astronomical events from the comfort of an armchair.

The 4,200-square-metre exhibition space provides visitors with ample opportunity to marvel at the natural history collection in the museum too. One star attraction that can be explored in the museum foyer is the world's largest ammonite fossil, which has a diameter of 1.80 metres. Then there's an original collection of marine reptiles, which were actually excavated by the staff at the museum. There's nothing quite like them in the rest of Germany! And this is the only museum in the country to display the "Portrait of the Milky Way" by Jon Lomberg as an illuminated image measuring 12 square metres. The 3,500-square-metre museum courtyard is home to many more attractions. Opening times: Tuesday to Sunday and public holidays: 9 am–6 pm
