Chemnitz Museum of Industry

The Museum of Industry is one of the finest museums that Chemnitz has to offer thanks to its extensive collection of artefacts from Saxony's industrial history.

Chemnitz played a crucial role in the development of the automotive industry and in tool, office and textile machine engineering. And big characters made their mark on the business world in the city during the 19th and 20th centuries. The museum is divided up into clear zones and provides a fascinating look at this chapter of history, whilst always linking back to the present day. Many of the exciting exhibits show the production conditions at the time in operation. For example, there is a fully functional steam engine from 1896 alongside older manifestations of the computers and mobile phones we know and love as well as historical looms and knitting machines.

A special exhibition area is dedicated to the long history of the textile industry in Chemnitz. Known as "Textile Way", this part of the museum tracks the journey of a textile product, starting off with the fibres and their processing before going on to many of the necessary production steps. There are also plenty of opportunities to touch exhibits and get involved along the way. Opening times: Tuesday to Friday: 9 am–5 pm, Saturday and Sunday: 10 am–5 pm
