The second Sunday in September has become a significant day for history and architecture enthusiasts in Germany. On 8 September 2013, historical buildings and sites that are otherwise closed or only partly accessible to the public will be welcoming visitors with open arms and inviting them to step back in time. 'Beyond the good and the beautiful: inconvenient monuments?' is the theme of this year's events and informative guided tours.
The official opening ceremony takes place on Schlossplatz square in Saarbrücken, but in many other towns, cities and regions in Germany as well, this will be a day dedicated to saving and preserving cultural heritage.
