Braunschweig is known for its old quarter, Castle Dankwarderode and Residenz palace. But the city is less well known as a setting for Tatort (crime scene), regarded as the most successful detective series on German television. Every Sunday evening, millions of viewers settle down to watch the exciting stories which take place in cities all over the country, from Cologne in the west to Berlin in the east and from Constance in the south to Kiel in the north.
The Braunschweig State Museum will host a Tatort evening on 31 January 2012 at which the episode Alles umsonst (all for nothing) will be shown. It was the first to be filmed in Braunschweig and dates from 1979.
