Exploring Germany's jungles

Believe it or not, a jungle experience among lush green exotic plants and tropical warmth is possible in Germany, even in winter. The greenhouses of the noted Palmengarten Botanical Gardens in Frankfurt recreate the world's various climatic zones, from monsoon forests to sultry mangroves and dry deserts. Also well worth seeing are the exotic butterflies on Lake Constance's Mainau Island, and the palms growing at the baroque palace. Another place to experience the jungle is Tropical Islands, a tropical-themed water world occupying 66,000 square metres. Situated south of Berlin, it features a vast pool complex as well as exotic plants and animals.
