Candelmas Market in Erlangen

On 2 February (Candelmas), when Christmas in Germany officially ends, those who have not already done so should finally dismantle their Nativity scene and pack away the festive decorations.

The 2012 Candelmas Market in Erlangen also comes to a close on this day. This traditional street market harks back to the once common Candelmas custom of giving domestic servants and maids some money and allowing them to go out to buy things.

Other reminders of the past in the Franconian town of Erlangen with its wealth of baroque architecture include the Kunstpalais art gallery and the local history museum.
