The John Neumeier Suite

24 February is a significant day in more ways than one: John Neumeier, artistic director and chief choreographer of the Hamburg Ballet, celebrates his 70th birthday on this day in 2012 and restaurateur and hotelier Friedrich Haerlin was born on 24 February 1857.

It is not only a common birthday that connects the two men, but also an association with the Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten in Hamburg. Friedrich Haerlin bought the hotel at auction on 24 February 1897 and his memory is still very much alive 115 years on – in Restaurant Haerlin for example.

And this month, the hotel has named a suite after John Neumeier which overlooks the Alster lake. Other notable personalities who have luxury suites named after them include Thomas Mann and Prince Heinrich of Prussia.
