In 2000, UNESCO declared 21 March to be World Poetry Day, a day devoted to the value of verse. It aims to remind us of the cultural significance of language and the importance of oral traditions. This is particularly relevant in Germany, which is known all around the world as the land of poets and philosophers.
This day is also dedicated to our forests. PEFC, the certification organisation for sustainable forestry, is engaged in forest conservation and aims to raise awareness of the importance of our woodlands on 21 March with a number of initiatives and events. A walk through Germany's forests is a great way to enjoy the beauty of nature.
