The Dance of the Coopers in Munich

The Schäfflertanz or the ‘Dance of the Coopers’ in Munich takes place every seven years between Epiphany (6 January) and Shrove Tuesday (21 February in 2012), and is the only traditional guilds' custom that is still performed in public in the Bavarian capital. Schäffler are coopers, the medieval makers of barrels, and they first performed their dance in 1517.
