There almost aren't enough superlatives to describe Heide Park Resort, which opened in 1978. Set within a beautiful landscaped park near Soltau in Lüneburg Heath, this is one of Germany's biggest theme parks.
Want to see the world from a totally different angle? Then take a spin on Limit, the loop-the-loop rollercoaster that makes a Formula 1 starting grid look tame. Then there's the nostalgia-inducing wooden rollercoaster Colossos, a true sight to behold. Thousands upon thousands of beams have been bolted together to create an amazingly elaborate construction. It might not loop the loop, but don't expect a walk in the park either – Colossos is the fastest, at 120 km/h, and the highest wooden rollercoaster in the world. Plunge, soar, feel the fear and scream! Believe what your eyes are telling you – the Krake, Germany's first dive coaster, begins with a terrifying vertical drop into the jaws of an octopus. A ride to get your heart pounding and your adrenaline pumping! The individual theme areas, such as the Land of the Forgotten People, Transylvania and Totenkopf Pirate Bay, offer action and adventure for all. Little ones are well catered for too, with a range of attractions that will put smiles on their faces. But if white-knuckle thrills aren't your thing, the park also stages regular events, numerous shows with dolphins and sea lions, stunt displays, acrobatics and pirate-themed entertainment. The park is renowned not only for its countless attractions but also for the friendly and welcoming people who work there.
Heide Park Resort offers bundles of fun for little ones as well. They can play, climb, splash around and let off steam for hours on end, twirl and swirl on the merry-go-rounds, ride through the fairytale forest, or have a go at being a pilot, voyager, sailor, train driver or Formula 1 racer. Lucky Land, the Wild West town, is a big hit particularly with under twelves. But on its giant western-themed big wheel, children as young as three can sit with their parents in the large wooden barrels. Kids will also love the Indians' rollercoaster and the adventure playground. If you want to spend several days at the park and save yourself the travelling, you can stay overnight at one of 81 colourful and affordable wooden lodges at the Holiday Camp. And shiver me timbers! If you check into the spacious four-star Port Royal Hotel, you'll find 166 pirate-themed, family-friendly rooms.
