Bach House Eisenach

The Bach House in Eisenach in Thuringia first opened its doors in 1907 and it is still the largest museum dedicated to Johann Sebastian Bach in the world to this day. There are more than 250 original exhibits on display over an area of 600 square metres and short concerts are played every hour.

Johann Sebastian Bach was born in Eisenach on 21 March 1685. He grew up here for the first ten years of his life. He had his first music lesson here and sang in the school choir and at St. George's Church. When it opened its doors for the first time in 1907, the Bach House in Eisenach was the only museum dedicated to the composer. Its mission was to "collect and preserve anything and everything relating to Johann Sebastian Bach and his life's work". And the life and work of the composer is still presented in an impressively unique way here to this day.

Live concerts played on historical instruments, music in floating bubble chairs and a multimedia walk-in composition based on four Bach performances never fail to impress visitors. The incredible original exhibits include Bach's autograph, the mysterious Bach goblet and the forensic reconstruction of Bach's face. We would also highly recommend a visit to the Baroque gardens and Café Kantate.x000D_Opening times: Every day: 10 am–6 pm
