The Lake Constance Cycle Route takes you on a journey of nearly 270 kilometres through Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It runs around the entire lake, always close to the shore, and offering breathtaking views of the Alps at every turn. On the German side, starting at Constance, you can discover famous towns and remarkable attractions, such as the Flower Island of Mainau, the Monastic Island of Reichenau, Meersburg Castle and the town of Lindau.
Leisurely rides on level trails
The cycle route around Lake Constance is one of the most popular bike trails in Europe. As soon as you get under way you'll realise why, as you pedal along through magnificent landscapes, enjoying the hospitality of three different countries and exploring the rich diversity on offer. You start at Constance, ideally setting off in a clockwise direction to ensure that you are always travelling nearest to the lakeshore. After cycling past the Flower Island of Mainau, you reach the hydrotherapy spa resort of Überlingen from where you continue to Friedrichshafen. We recommend stopping off here to visit the Zeppelin Museum.
Explore UNESCO World Heritage
The route carries on to Lindau, a charming town on an island in the lake, then to Bregenz, and finally Rorschach. If you have enough time, be sure to visit the Im Kornhaus interactive museum right by the harbour. The next destination is Constance again, but it's by no means the end of the tour yet. There are still plenty of other highlights to come: pretty medieval villages in the Swiss section, Stein am Rhein with its delightful old quarter, and a trip to the Monastic Island of Reichenau, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Once you return to Constance, you've made it all the way around – enjoying a great experience all the while.
