Famous People – If you’re of German descent, you’re in good company

What do the Brothers Grimm, Dr. Seuss, Hugo Boss, Elvis Presley and Lou Gehrig have in common? They all share German heritage. Many of today’s celebrities are either German or German American, too.

Leonardo di Caprio is a fellow German-American and so are author John Steinbeck and ketchup magnate Henry Heinz. Sandra Bullock even proudly speaks the German language.

These people are examples of well-known Germans who either immigrated to America to make their name and fortune or who have influenced American culture through their publications and their works. German-Americans have made their mark in many fields, such as science and technology, and areas of daily life, such as food and drink. This is true for hundreds of well-known personalities, including scientists, artists, fashion designers, politicians, architects, philosophers, writers, musicians, athletes, entrepreneurs and celebrities from movies and TV.

In this section, you'll find a selection of interesting profiles of famous Germans who have made a positive impact on American culture. Of course we could not include all of the famous personalities.
