The German National Tourist Board wishes you a happy and peaceful festive season!
In Germany, the Christmas celebrations begin on Christmas Eve, the night before 25 December. Many families go to church and celebrate the occasion with a special evening meal. There is no typical menu: from goose to carp to potato salad with frankfurters – you'll find anything and everything on German Christmas tables. Presents placed under the decorated Christmas tree by the Christmas Angel or by Father Christmas are exchanged on Christmas Eve. This is a day traditionally spent quietly with family, leaving plenty of time on 25 and 26 December to try out all the presents and to visit friends and relatives.
