Mount Drachenfels reopens

Mount Drachenfels in the Siebengebirge nature reserve near Königswinter – one of the most popular destinations for days out in Europe – has now reopened with a new look. Rising up 321 metres from the shores of the Rhine, the Drachenfels, or 'Dragon rock', is the most famous landmark in the Siebengebirge hills. It has captured the imagination of people from all over the world for more than a century, not only because of Castle Drachenburg but also because of the oldest rack-railway in Germany. A ride on the railway up to the summit of Mount Drachenfels is a breathtaking experience that reveals the full beauty of the Siebengebirge hills and hints at the romance of past times. Fun, nature and history are close companions here.
