The Eifel in winter is like something out of a picture book. This low-lying mountain region in the far west of Germany offers a wide range of activities to entice you into the great outdoors, even in the cold. You can take to the slopes on skis or sledges at the eleven small ski resorts, which are ideal for beginners and families. There's also a 10km winter hike through the Eifel National Park, which takes place once a month. Those who like to discover the landscape at a faster pace can enjoy a sleigh ride in the Monschauer Land region or climb aboard the Vulkan Express, a historical narrow-gauge railway.
There are 14 national parks in Germany that all have their own distinctive charm in winter.
