Originally launched as part of the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010, the EMSCHERKUNST summer of art is making a return this year. From 22 June to 6 October 2013, numerous places along the Emscher river, a tributary of the Rhine, will serve as a stage for German and international artists. Art will be on display in the open-air at a range of unusual public places – from industrial sites to open countryside. Participating cities include Duisburg, Oberhausen, Essen and Gelsenkirchen.
Information centres and people who are there especially to explain what the art is trying to express make the installations more easily accessible to visitors.
