Social dining – breaking bread and conventions

Have you already heard of the social dining movement? Read on to find out what it's all about and how you can join in on your next trip to Germany.

If you haven't discovered social dining yet, then it's time you gave it a try! The sharing economy phenomenon has come to the kitchens of Germany in the shape of social dining. The concept is a bit like Airbnb for eating out. Try it while on holiday in Germany and see how restaurant-going is being turned on its head.

Something for every budget

A favourite among foodies is the concept of supper clubs, whereby top chefs conjure magnificent menus, normally in their own homes, in exchange for a 'donation'. If your budget doesn't stretch that far, there are plenty of other ways to get involved, including supper clubs run by amateur chefs and events where everyone cooks together and splits the cost. The idea is simply to enjoy great food in small friendly groups and share a table with complete strangers. Whichever type of social dining experience you go for, you'll always get chatting to new people!

Something for every taste

Eat like a true local! Social dining is the perfect way to meet people on your holiday in Germany. In Germany's major cities in particular, a variety of social dining options are available for travellers to enjoy. All you need is a bit of spontaneity and an open mind! From experimental dishes to traditional German cuisine, you'll find something to tickle your taste buds. And as an added bonus, you can practise speaking German or just learn a few words!

If you prefer dining out the 'normal' way, then why not book a table at one of Germany's many gourmet restaurants? For more tips and information on food and drink, click here.
