For almost 70 years, this book fair has been attracting publishers, authors and literary enthusiasts from all over the world to Frankfurt. And they come for much more than just the books.
The fair gives visitors a glimpse into the future of the arts and the creative industries. This year, the winner of the first book blog award will be revealed, and Bookfest Night will see bars and restaurants around Frankfurt's train station open their doors to the world of literature. From 11 to 15 October, the city on the river Main shows how words and pictures shape the future. The five-day autumn event presents the industry at its most diverse, its most innovative and its most cosmopolitan, with exhibitors from over 100 countries making an appearance.
A place of a thousand possibilities
Exciting features at the fair include the Gourmet Gallery – a series of cookery demonstrations, discussions, tastings and inspiring cookbooks that span five continents of cuisine. The artist group Comic Solidarity will be showcasing the latest trends in comic publishing. And for a little contrast, there'll be a big pop-up museum inside THE ARTS+ lounge where you can find out all about the virtues of the digital revolution. Other popular items on the itinerary include readings by notable authors and special events themed around this year's guest country, France.
And if you want to recharge your batteries after all that creative inspiration, you can make a quick detour to the Museum Embankment Frankfurt, stroll around the Palmengarten Botanical Gardens, grab a bite to eat in one of the traditional cider houses or cruise down the Main on a riverboat.
