In 2013 Hamburg will be hosting the 18th edition of the Vattenfall Cyclassics, Europe's biggest cycling race. It is the only professional race in Germany to be included in the highest category of the UCI World Tour. On 25 August, the 18 best cycling teams in the world will be taking their places at the starting line, hoping to secure victory in the competition. But before the professionals get under way, up to 22,000 amateur cyclists will be participating in the all-comers race through the city centre and Hamburg Metropolitan Region. This year, around 800,000 spectators are again expected to watch from the sidelines, cheer on the competitors and enjoy the cycling consumer fair and entertainment programme outside the town hall and on the Jungfernstieg promenade.
