In the heart of the historic Old Town, the Obermarkt, surrounding the fountain memorial to Margrave Otto von Meißen, the Freiberger Christmarkt awaits in the middle of the Erzgebirge. A twinkling Christmas world, typical of the Erzgebirge with its mountain miners (Bergmann), opens its gates to let light and warmth flood the wintry Old Town, where the angel and Bergmann are waiting to greet you. Traditional carpentry such as Christmas pyramids, Schwibbogen (arched candle holders) and nutcrackers are nurtured in the silver city along with Bergmann traditions. Advent is brought to life like in no other place by numerous atmospheric Christmas concerts, the “Freiberger Weihnacht” – a nativity play in the Bergmann tradition, the “Kleine Bergwerkstadt” for children, and the famous Freiberg Mountain Parade.
