In time-honoured tradition, the Christmas market in Jena is opened when the first cut is made in the giant, four-metre-long stollen cake. There are many lovingly decorated stalls at the heart of the historical old town offering arts, crafts and jewellery from Germany and around the world. Every day at 5pm the Christmas trumpet fanfare sounds from the tower of the town hall, enhancing the festive atmosphere. A programme of stage entertainment also adds to the Christmas fun.
