"Germany for the Jewish Traveler"

Fürth

The Jewish experience in Fürth was unusual. From the 16th century onward, Fürth had no “Jewish quarter.” By the 18th century, Fürth Jews enjoyed unique privileges, e.g. no restrictions on building synagogues. Fürth’s beautifully restored Synagogue is at the site of Germany’s first Jewish orphanage near the Jewish Community Center. A modern memorial to the Jewish community stands in Geleitsgasse Square. The Old Jewish Cemetery is one of the largest, oldest and best preserved.
