A remnant of the past, the only one of its kind in Germany, was given new purpose in 2008: the former government bunker in the Ahr valley.
In March of that year the most top-secret building in the history of West Germany opened its atom-bomb-proof doors to the public as a museum. An extensive collection of original documents and objects tells of this chapter in Germany's history from an authentic site, which during the Cold War period was part of a worldwide stand-off between the superpowers in the east and west.
