When 19-year-old student Lena Meyer-Landrut won the European Song Contest with Satellite in Oslo in summer 2010, she captured the whole of Europe's hearts. As well as in Germany, the song shot to number one in the charts in Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Switzerland.
Lena was born in Hannover in 1991. By 2009 she was playing several minor TV roles and immediately before her Oslo win, three of her songs were in Germany's top five. The success of Satellite (which won by a margin of 76 points) was so overwhelming that car maker Opel launched a special Corsa Satellite model. In 2011 Lena represented Germany again in the European Song Contest and finished tenth. Her debut album was in the German charts for 44 weeks, got to number one and went gold five times.
