At the traditional Schwörfeier ceremony in Ulm, held on 23 July 2012, the mayor gives a speech about the year that has passed and the year ahead. This is followed by the Nabada, a colourful, carnival-like procession on the Danube, which brings spectators, young and old alike, to the banks of the river. Themed 'floats' and boats carrying brass bands make their way downriver, providing music and entertainment for the whole city.
