Düben Heath beaver walking tour – on the lookout for beavers

Düben Heath is proud to be home to many beavers and visitors have the chance to see these charming creatures. With a 30 kilometre quality-approved walking trail to explore, you may well spot one.

The route starts at the nature reserve centre in Bad Düben, where beaver signposts guide walkers along the trail. If you come at night, you could be lucky enough to see beavers at work with their teeth. If you come in the daytime, however, you'll see the results: gnawed logs and beavers' lodges carefully built from tree branches on the riverbank. The trail also passes an old hammer mill, where you can see how they used to produce charcoal by burning wood. The best ways to discover beautiful Düben Heath are by exploring the landscape for yourself on the trail, and visiting the heritage museum at Düben Castle. Other sights of cultural interest include a maiden's tomb, the Reinharz moated palace and the Kaiser Wilhelm observation tower with its far-reaching views. What more could a walker wish for? Perhaps a relaxing afternoon at an art nouveau spa, or to dip their weary feet in the spa town's refreshing Kneipp pools? Well in that case they'd better keep walking to Bad Schmiedeberg.
