Cultural Highlights

Bremen, the pulsating heart of northwest Germany, possesses many faces. Its history, tradition, high-tech achievements, scientific feats and innovation in space research unite this multifaceted city in an exciting ground breaking experience. Historic Bremen: Nowhere is the city’s vibrant heritage more remarkable than at its magnificent Rathaus (UNESCO World Heritage Site), designed in a distinct Weser Renaissance style, the Schnoor, Bremen’s oldest surviving quarter, the quirky make-up of traditional Böttcherstrasse, the city’s Cathedral and the imposing statue of Knight Roland on the historic Market Square. And of course, there’s the popular representation of the famous Town Musicians from the fabled story by the Brother’s Grimm. Culturally vibrant Bremen: The Bremen Theatre, the Shakespeare Company or the city’s many museums, like the Bremen Art Museum that rates with the best-known foundation museums or the Weserburg – Museum of Modern Art, one of Germany’s largest museums for contemporary art. Bremen lives a culturally diverse life: From popular musical productions and celebrated varieté right to the city’s own theatre ship. Scientific Bremen: On 300 mostly interactive exhibits, simulators, video installations and hands-on presentations, the visitors can turn explorer of man, nature and techniques in the Universum Science Centre. Green Bremen: The Rhododendron Park has built up a reputation as a key attraction far beyond the Hanseatic city. Botanika adds to this botanic diversity, unveiling a unique flowerscape experience that will invite exploration of three landscaped complexes: Discovery Centre, Himalayas/Borneo and a Japanese Garden.

Welcome to the Seaside City of Bremerhaven
Latitude 53° 33’ North and longitude 8° 34’ East. That’s Bremerhaven in geographical terms. More than 250 large square-riggers were built here, this is where German deep-sea fishery began and the legendary North German Lloyd set new standards in shipbuilding and in passenger shipping. Today the skyline of the Havenwelten Bremerhaven with the the Klimahaus®Bremerhaven 8° Ost (Climate House), the Zoo at the Sea, the German Emigration Center, the German Maritime Museum and the submarine "Wilhelm Bauer" characterizes the cityscape. The adventure and knowledge worlds are state-of-the art. Modern exhibition concepts allow the present to be understood by viewing the past with topics such as migration in the German Emigration Center, climate change in the Klimahaus®Bremerhaven 8° Ost (Climate House) and modern treasure hunts in the German Maritime Museum.

In the roofed pedestrian zone, in Columbus Center and in the Mediterraneo you can enjoy strolling and shopping. Nearby you will find the Historical Museum, the City Theater, the City Art Gallery and the Museum of Art.

First class fish restaurants, restaurant ships, shrimp directly from the boat, freshly smoked fish "to go", all this can be experienced in the Shop Window Fishery Harbor. The former Fishery Harbor with the red brick packing halls is today a strolling mile with showcase attractions, such as the museum trawler „Gera“, the Sea Fish Cooking Studio, the science center Phänomenta and the harbor cruises. From here you can also hop on to our HarborBus tour which takes you to the far ends of the otherwise restricted areas of the Overseas Harbors.
