The Franconian Heights Nature Park: a stone's throw from Nuremberg and blessed by the sun

Nestling between the historic towns of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Feuchtwangen and Ansbach, the Franconian Heights Nature Park is a sublime combination of nature and culture.

From its heights, the nature park offers a magnificent panorama of natural and man-made wonders alike such as hilltop castles and palaces. It was this amazing landscape that inspired the painter Ludwig Doefler to produce his artworks, one after the other.

The "European Watershed Route", which has been awarded a quality seal, runs in a 100-kilometre arc straight through the nature park and features European watersheds located between the Danube and Rhine rivers. Here you can appreciate the charm of the countryside, let your spirits flow and pamper yourself with a host of regional specialities. Countless natural bays and south-facing slopes offer protection for a wide variety of plants and animals. Shepherds or Hüteschäfer, who are identified by their distinctive hats, look after these natural treasures by grazing animals in specially identified areas. A diverse range of bird species are commonly seen here, and there are countless opportunities to watch them while hiking through the Franconian Heights.

A visit to the permanent exhibition in the Colmberg Information Centre will also give you a varied insight into the different green spaces, as well as suggestions on how you can make the most of the beautiful surroundings on foot or by bike. Your stay is sure to be a one-of-a-kind experience!

Tapahtumat
From May 2016 to the late 2018 the Medieval Crime Museum is mounting a major exhibition on the history of people's belief in and persecution of witches - from the early days to the end of the great witch hunts.
It focuses particularly on Martin Luther and his views on witchcraft. The exhibition also looks at the Reformation and the persecution of witches in Franconia and Rothenburg ob der Tauber. More than 100 priceless exhibits, modern museum technology and detailed information in German and English provide visitors with a profound insight into the man Martin Luther was, the era in which he lived and the hopes and fears of the people in the 14th to the 17th centuries.
