Boasting 110,000m² of exhibition space, Messe Essen is the eighth-largest trade fair venue in Germany. The exhibition grounds are located in the heart of the Ruhr region, Europe's third-largest conurbation.
Founded in 1913, Messe Essen is today one of the most visited exhibition centres in Germany – around 1.4 million people attend events there every year. The programme features 50 trade shows and exhibitions, of which twelve are international flagship fairs. Among them are leading trade fairs such as the IPM (plants and floristry), Reifen (tyres), SHK (sanitation, heating, air conditioning and renewable energies), Metpack (metal packaging), Schweissen & Schneiden (joining, cutting, surfacing), the Equitana horse show and popular public events such as the Essen Motor Show and the Techno-Classica vintage car and motorcycle fair. Messe Essen also hosts the IPM, Schweissen & Schneiden and Reifen fairs in other countries.
The exhibition grounds, only a few minutes from Essen train station, comprise 18 halls and the galleria. Italian architect Mario Bellini produced the designs for the state-of-the-art west wing. In the 250-metre-long, light-flooded galleria is the largest stained glass window in Europe, created by artist Jörg Immendorff.
The CCE Congress Center Essen is a division of Messe Essen and offers 27 different halls and conference rooms for up to 1,000 people. The Grugahalle, which adjoins the exhibition centre, is a multi-purpose hall offering a high degree of flexibility. The Grugapark, which seamlessly borders the exhibition grounds, is one of Germany's largest parks and covers an area of 65 hectares.
