It is more than possible to go for a bike ride in the Black Forest without coming across any major hills. In fact, the Southern Black Forest Cycle Route, a 4-star ADFC quality-certified route, promises a wonderful experience. Now cyclists can enjoy being at one with nature without having to worry about the physical challenge.

On this cycle route, it all comes down to cyclists using the hills to their advantage. After all, the only real climb can be overcome by train and after that it's all downhill to the Southern Black Forest. Along the way, there is a chance to visit the Wutach Gorge, the Markgräflerland region and, with a detour to France, the "Petite Camargue" nature conservation area. There is plenty of culture on offer too in Medieval towns and major cities like Basel and Freiburg. Leaving Freiburg, the leisurely route continues with a train ride up to Hinterzarten via Himmelreich, crossing the beautiful Höllental, or Hell's Valley, along the way.
