Twists and turns and fine wines: Moselle Cycle Route

The Moselle's meandering journey to the Rhine begins in the southern Vosges Mountains in France. Flowing through Luxembourg and on to Germany, the river has many a fascinating tale to tell.

Those who follow this route are also sure to have stories to tell. The German section of the Moselle Cycle Route, part of the international Vélo Tour Moselle, begins in Perl. Stretching out before you are 250 kilometres of richly varied and mostly level terrain on your way to Koblenz. Trier is worth a visit with its mighty Roman monuments. Just a few miles downriver, the Moselle passes through the Rhenish slate mountains, winding its way through the ever-narrowing valley. Here, you will find cultural treasures galore, such as the Roman villa in Longuich or the Moselle castles. The Moselle Cycle Route ends at Deutsches Eck (German Corner). Terrain: an international long-distance cycle route running predominantly on asphalt paths, farm tracks and old towpaths over mainly level terrain. The German section from Perl is signposted using a standard logo which differs from the French version. Scenery: Moselle wine-growing country with numerous twists and turns in the river, steep valleys and traditional terraced vineyards. The cycle paths run between the banks of the river and the vineyards and pass through more than 120 wine-making villages.
