Bad Harzburg's saltwater thermal spring wells from a depth of 840 metres, with natural saline healing powers that are unrivalled in the Harz hills.
The spa is one of the top three health resorts in Lower Saxony, not too surprising given all that it can offer its visitors. As well as being one of the prettiest inland spas in northern Germany, the resort prides itself on its curative powers, having no fewer than seven therapeutic springs.
The Bad Harzburg remedy
The town's inhabitants have been drawing saltwater from these springs since the 16th century, and using its healing powers for medicinal purposes since the 18th century. The most important natural resource for spa treatments is the thermal saltwater from the Johann Albrecht and Dr Harras Schneider spring, containing both sulphur and sulphates. The saltwater is characterised by its low sulphur content and is primarily used at the town's spa clinics and Sole-Therme thermal spa. Rheumatism, postural problems, asthma and chronic bronchitis are among the conditions that have been alleviated by Bad Harzburg's saltwater spring, which emerges from the ground at 24°C and is heated to 32°C. The Sole-Therme thermal spa is a place for letting one's body and mind unwind; a place for drawing renewed strength.
Harz National Park
Bad Harzburg is also the ideal spot for any nature lovers looking for a rich set of holiday experiences, as the range of nature-intense recreational activities is virtually inexhaustible. The resort's location in the Harz National Park lends itself spectacularly to hiking tours. Every visitor should savour at least once the view from Mount Brocken, the highest peak in the Harz, and get to know the local flora and fauna. Meanwhile, shopping fans can round off their holiday with some extensive retail therapy in Bad Harzburg's pedestrian precinct.
