The All Saints' Day Fair (Allerheiligenkirmes) in Soest – the largest such fair in Europe to be held in the old quarter of a town – takes place this year from 6 to 10 November 2013. For five days the North Rhine-Westphalian town of Soest is transformed into one huge, colourful funfair. The 50,000m² site buzzes with 400 stallholders – and as many as 530 during the traditional horse market – when this unique event gets under way. Now in its 676th year, the fair attracts visitors of all generations. It's well worth the trip, even if only for the sight of the colourful hubbub and the latest high-tech fairground rides surrounded by picturesque medieval buildings and green sandstone churches.
