Museum of Fine Arts Leipzig

The Museum of Fine Arts in Leipzig has an exhibition space of more than 7,000 square metres in a stunning new building, where it showcases masterpieces from the 15th to 21st century and hosts temporary exhibitions that appeal to visitors from all around the world.

The permanent collection is spread across four floors, each of which has been inspired by a different architectural style. Highlights include paintings from the Late Middle Ages by the likes of Rogier van der Weyden, Lucas Cranach and Hans Baldung Grien, Dutch 17th-century paintings by artists including Frans Hals, Jan van Goyen and Jacob van Ruisdael, and examples of German Romanticism by Caspar David Friedrich and Johann Christian Dahl.

French Impressionism features heavily in the museum too, in the form of artwork by painters from the Barbizon school and Claude Monet. There is also a comprehensive display of works by Max Klinger. The basement is home to temporary exhibitions with universal charm and appeal. Opening times: Tuesday to Sunday: 10 am–6 pm, Wednesday: 12 pm–8 pm
