The International Africa Festival, founded in 1989, is the largest festival for African music and culture in Europe. Since its launch, more than 1.8 million visitors from Germany and abroad have flocked to the former royal seat of Würzburg in Bavaria to experience the rich culture and exuberance of Africa.

Fans of Wagner's operas flock to the Franconian town of Bayreuth in Bavaria every summer for the Bayreuth Festival. This 30-day event presents a different programme of Wagner's key works each year and is held at the festival hall on 'Green Hill'. The venue was built in accordance with Richard Wagner's own concept in the 19th century. Today, the festival is attended by politicians, diplomats and celebrities from all over the world.

Berlin Music Week, held in and around the Osthafen docks, is the biggest club festival in Europe as well as being a networking event for the music industry. Recording industry professionals from all over the world can get better acquainted at a speed meeting in a pedalo or on a round of urban golf. Music fans can look forward to sensational events at 15 different venues. The former docklands between Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg are the city's prime media location and highlight Berlin's importance as the hub of the German music industry.

During the Beethoven Festival, Bonn puts the focus on its most famous son and gives him a 21st-century reboot. Performing works put together specially for the festival, acclaimed musicians such as Lorin Maazel, Kurt Masur and Hélène Grimaud as well as selected newcomers introduce their interpretations of the composer's music. Accompanying the festival is the 'Look at Beethoven' project, which sees young creators of media presenting their take on Beethoven in short films and installations.

The Brandenburg summer concerts have, in the past, lured artists and ensembles such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Barbara Hendricks, the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields and Leipzig's Gewandhaus Orchestra on an outing to the country – with their audiences in tow. For this is a festival where the Brandenburg countryside plays a powerful role. Concerts are combined with castle or village tours; punting trips and steamboat cruises have musical accompaniments. Since 1988 Bremen Music Festival has been offering its guests classical music and more – from early music to contemporary sounds.
