The Spree Cycle Route follows the course of the River Spree from its source in the Upper Lusatian Heath, through the Upper Lusatian Heath UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, via Bautzen, Cottbus and the Spree Forest, all the way to Köpenick near Berlin.

From the starting point in Eibau to Bautzen, the terrain is slightly on the hillier side. All the more reason to stop for a break and enjoy the view in this town steeped in over 1,000 years of history. On the next leg, many cyclists head to the beach at Spremberg Dam if the sun is shining. The Lusatian town of Cottbus was once home to Prince Pückler, who created Branitz Park in the image of an English garden as one of his most lavish designs. The Spree Forest Biosphere Reserve is just a short distance away, boasting remarkable waterside scenery around the extensive branches of the river. The moated castle of Beeskow and the cathedral in Fürstenwalde are two highlights waiting for cyclists at the end of the route, which finishes in Berlin.
