Eifelsteig Trail – rocks and water galore in a land of crater lakes

The Eifelsteig Trail, which connects Aachen with Trier, passes ancient woodland and lakeland scenery, limestone outcrops, crater lakes and idyllic valleys, sandstone cliffs and waterfalls – a celebration of Germany's diverse natural landscapes.

Daun volcanic maars
The maars are beautiful natural features characteristic of the Eifel. They are caused by eruptions of steam from funnel-shaped volcanoes that blast craters – usually bowl-shaped – into the landscape.
