Middle Rhine Museum Koblenz

The focus of the comprehensive permanent exhibition at the Middle Rhine Museum in Koblenz is on a collection of paintings, sculptures and arts and crafts. The selection of prints and drawings on display is also well worth a look.

The Middle Rhine Museum brings 2,000 years of art and cultural history together under one roof. The overall collection features some 1,200 paintings, over 8,000 drawings and prints including a large number of sketches and watercolours, around 250 artistic photographs, sculptures and about 1,000 graphic works. Then there are lots of items made from stone, wood and metal, more than 500 historical coins and medals, and ceramics.

The museum also boasts an extensive selection of items of historical and cultural importance and folklore objects, with a wide range of material groups being covered: glass painting, furniture, craftwork, textiles, cast iron, lights and lamps, metal goods, brass and tin objects and timepieces. And yet the focus of the permanent exhibition is on the collection of paintings, sculptures and arts and crafts. The display presents a chronological timeline that starts with Medieval sculpture and ends with works of contemporary art. Opening times: Tuesday to Sunday: 10 am–6 pm
