The inability to conceive a child can put enormous emotional strain on a couple. Reproductive medicine is a highly specialised field of medicine that makes it possible for people to turn their dreams of being parents into reality. The systematic interaction between reliable laboratory tests, the latest non-aggressive treatment methods and psychological counselling results in above-average success rates for couples. Germany was one of the first EU countries to voluntarily set up a register in which all IVF/ICSI artificial insemination treatments are precisely documented from the outset. The results are published annually and monitored by the German medical councils.
