The European Rosarium in Sangerhausen, Saxony-Anhalt, is a garden of poetic beauty but it's also much more than that. It is home to one of the largest collections of roses in the world with over 8,300 varieties. Summer festivities are getting under way now that the flowering season is at its height: the Mining and Rose Festival takes place every year on the last weekend in June and features a party and evening concert.
