Überlingen, a hydrotherapy spa between Lake Constance and the snow-covered Alps, offers a mediterranean lake climate and a dazzling range of relaxing health breaks.
More than 50 years of experience in Kneipp-based natural healing have made Überlingen, a town on Lake Constance and since 1955 the only hydrotherapy spa in Baden-Württemberg, one of Germany's premier health resorts. In 2004 Überlingen was included in the list of Slow Cities – a select group of exceptionally pleasant places offering a high quality of life – and was awarded the title of premium hydrotherapy spa in 2006. The range of naturopathic health treatments available here is particularly high. Sebastian Kneipp hydrotherapy and fasting cures can be booked at many hotels, as can Dr Otto Buchinger's fasting programmes and F. X. Mayr's nutritional therapy. Alongside these, visitors can take advantage of a broad range of activities. A 270km cycling and walking trail with various difficulty levels and a half-marathon route thread their way through spectacular scenery. The garden culture trail links the lake promenade and spa gardens, where many exotic plants thrive, with the municipal park and its exceptional cacti collection. Also worth visiting are Überlingen's magnificent municipal museum housed in a late-medieval patrician villa and Meersburg, a town with an impressive castle. At any time of the year visitors can relax in the Lake Constance hot springs, which are located right on the shores of the lake. With thermal waters rising from a depth of 1,006 metres at a temperature of 36.2°C, not to mention soothing underwater music and light projections in the evenings, these pools are ideal for anyone wishing to soak away the stresses of everyday living.
