The Ahornweg leads walkers through the varied landscape and natural beauty spots of the hilly southern area of the Osnabrücker Land region. It owes its name to the multitude of maple trees (ahorn) lining the route.

Iburg Castle
The origins of the castle can be traced back to bishops Benno I and II (around 1060). Iburg Castle was built from the ruins of an Old Saxon retreat as the permanent residence for the Bishop of Osnabrück. Guided tours of the castle take in the banqueting hall and the room where royalty were born.
