Those three magic letters DTM once stood for Deutsche Tourenwagen-Meisterschaft (German Touring Car Championships), a competition that began in 1984 with production-based cars. The Meisterschaft has since changed to Masters, and the DTM is now the most popular international touring car race series. It is considered the premier event of touring car racing and is one of the biggest sporting events in Europe.
Each race weekend offers three action-packed days for the whole family. Access to the drivers' paddock, autograph sessions, driver interviews and a fantastic programme of entertainment away from the track play no small part in the popularity of the series. The spectacular touring cars of Audi, BMW and Mercedes come up against each other in ten championship races, with the first and last points of the season traditionally contested at the Hockenheimring in Baden-Württemberg. Races are also held at the Lausitzring, the Norisring in Nuremberg, the Nürburgring and at the Motorsport Arena in Oschersleben – and four races are held outside Germany.
The supporting programme features even more motorsport with the Formula 3 EuroSeries, the Porsche Carrera Cup and the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup. Another highlight is the amazing show event at the Olympic Stadium in Munich, which was incorporated into the programme in 2011. Top racing action in a stadium setting and sensational live acts make the DTM show a highlight for all those with petrol flowing through their veins.
