Overseas Museum Bremen

At the Overseas Museum in Bremen, Asia and Africa are just a few steps apart. Here, collections relating to trade, ethnology and nature are blended together in one unique museum.

The museum holds more than 1.1 million exhibits in total. The attention to detail and positioning of the artefacts in the grand old building ensure that every visit is an unforgettable experience. Visitors can dive right into the glittering underwater world of Oceania and admire Asia as a continent of contrasts between bustling megacities and spiritual calm and tradition. In the African zone, they can discover the Cradle of Humankind, get up close to the Big 5 in the savanna and marvel at the Ancient Egyptian mummy of Priest Harsiese.

And the life of the Native Americans in North and South America, Pre-Columbian golden treasure and the Amazon Rainforest habitat are all just waiting to be discovered in the American zone. The exhibition called "What makes the world go round" addresses the topical issue of globalisation. The history of the Overseas Museum itself is put under the microscope in a new exhibition called "Following in the Footsteps – The History of a Museum". And if the main museum somehow isn't quite enough, there's always the exhibit depot that is just over a bridge. Opening times: Tuesday to Friday: 9 am–6 pm, Saturday and Sunday: 10 am–6 pm
